Skotko received her B.A. Degree in Speech Pathology
and Audiology from Kent State University, and her Master's

She
was distinguished in 2000 by being one of the first in the
United States to receive Specialty Board recognition in
stuttering disorders. She remains one of the few Board Recognized
Fluency Specialists in the country. This recognition guarantees
that, aside from being a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist,
she has surpassed the minimum of 5 years of post-clinical
fellowship experience, has demonstrated an ongoing interest
in fluency disorders, has demonstrated extensive knowledge
about the nature of fluency issues and all relevant research,
has lengthy experience in the evaluation and treatment of
fluency disorders, and regularly participates in continuing
education in this area. In December of 2002, Ms. Skotko
held the first Tampa Bay Stuttering Support and Experiential
Group, which is a monthly gathering of adult and adolescent
stutterers, their loved ones, and others (such as SLPs,
graduate students, teachers) where all can share their experiences
and learn about the experiences of others in a loosely structured,
safe, and empathetic setting.
She
has authored several articles for professional publications,
and has delivered numerous presentations to a variety of
groups, ranging from Florida state professional organizations,
universities and hospitals, to corporate organizations and
civic associations. Her articles and presentations address
effective communication skills, corporate speech pathology,
and stuttering treatment and electronic devices. During
her 28 years in the profession, she has developed expertise
in a variety of areas. These areas include treating specific
disorders, enhancing vocal abilities, and reducing accents
and/or dialects, as well as improving a client’s "presentation
of self" in every detail - for interviews, public speaking,
TV/radio appearances, and teaching. Corporate training and
coaching are a significant part of her expertise as well,
including such areas as communication styles, listening
skills, effective team building, organizational skills,
etc. She also has extensive experience in treating children
for stuttering, language delays, articulation difficulties,
tongue thrust, and other pediatric language disorders and
delays, to include those related to hearing impairment.
Ms.
Skotko is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association (ASHA), and is a member of the ASHA Specialty
Board for Fluency Disorders, as well as an active member
of the International Fluency Association. She is a member
of the Florida Association of Speech-Language Pathologists
and Audiologists (FLASHA), and was elected Vice President
for Public Relations and Resource Development, serving for
four years and receiving its President's Special Recognition
Award. She is a referral source for the Stuttering Foundation
of America and the Corporate Speech Pathology Network (CORSPAN),
and SpeechEasy Inc., and is on the advisory board of Speech
Pathology Online, an online magazine for professionals in
the field.
The
