CIRCLE OF SELF ASSESSMENT FOR STUTTERERS

The CSAS - ADULT VERSION - WHY A SIMPLE CIRCLE?
In its simplicity there is a complexity understood BY stutterers:

  • Helps you learn to identify with their perspective
  • Offers dimensionality for a multi-dimensional disorder rather than the flat linearity of the traditional numbered scale
  • Offers an opportunity to view "changes" in a new and personal way

    USEFUL FOR:
  • Progressive diagnoses
  • Understanding change as a result of:
    ►Treatment
    ►Patient comprehension of goals
►Life events: understanding "where" to go next in therapy
►Understanding the progression of changes through the therapist-patient exchange.

This type of measurement has been studied and revised for 3 years. Clients prefer it! THAT is important because you know you are getting better information upon which to act.

    The CSAS - CHILD VERSION
The circles and dimensions measured are the same. The wordings of the questions/statements are quite different and may include (separately) the parent’s self-perception.
    What is included:
    ►Individualized “books”
    ►Directions for use
►Multiple circles for client use over time
►Overlapping transfer forms for clinician to observe change(s)/movement(s)
    ►History form
    ►Progress notes

    BEYOND THE CIRCLE

Even though fluency is the goal of treatment, successes may include an increased willingness on the part of the client to take part in academic and other school activities, business activities, and social activities, leading toward a more full and productive life. These types of goals are in line with treatment goals and can be included in such forms as IEPs (Yaruss and Quesal, 2001).
